or, Life on Alberta.
So lets see, I've been living in my current house since April of 2008. That makes it, 4 months, and yet I don't really feel like I live there more like I am a border, renting a room and making the best of it. There is a huge laundry list of things that bug me about my roommates and I could go into all of them but that would take up much more space than I should probably use on such negative things. Probably the one that gets to me the most on a daily basis is that they don't put on new rolls of toilet paper when they use the old one, nor do they flush the toilet. If I was living in a house full of guys I probably wouldn't really consider this strange behavior I guess, hell Im a guy I know, for the most part guys are unkempt and most don't seem to learn proper bathroom habits, blame it on the fact we don't have to sit when we pee or wipe our nethers to go number 1, but I live with two girls, seriously ladies flush the damn toilet so it doesn't smell like the boys bathroom in high school. Plus it's really not that hard to replace the hold toilet paper roll with a new one when it runs out. So generally that irks me on a day to day basis, cause hey, they are girls, they use alot of toilet paper and it runs out all the time, and I always have to put the new one on the roll or it just sits on top of the toilet until its gone. Maybe this is making it out like I'm kind of anal, but I don't really harp on them about it, its really just one of the symptoms, not one of the problems. So anyway they do alot of things that bug me and I let it go. But beyond that, I just don't think we have enough in common, its probably not good to think your roommates are stupid 6 or 7 out of the ten times you talk to them. For example, one of my roommates was talking about how she wanted a gun. I responded something along the lines of, I wouldn't want to live in a house with a handgun around. She says not to worry, she wouldn't let anyone know she had it (this from someone who uses the fact that she "has no filter" as an excuse as to why she says mean things). I sort of roll my eyes and continue on with the obvious follow up question "why do you want a gun?" Her careful well thought out response, "For when the revolution comes!" Okay so she may have been joking, but seriously, 1 thats not funny, 2. Owning a hand gun when the "Revolution" comes I imagine would make it more likely for you to die during the revolution, and finally 3. well there is no three, I just wanted to mention again how unfunny and asinine the idea of a revolution coming and her needing a gun for it. So yeah all in all not the richest of conversational partners. So for the most part I spend my days either out of the house or in my room. I come out from time to time to eat or get some water or what have you, but really Im a tenant not a roommate no matter what they might like to think. Its not so bad though, they leave me alone for the most part and if they do engage me I am mostly cordial, as long as you include the half-mock comments and frequent eye-rolling, the rent is cheap though!
Really though its not all that bad. It's just a bunch of small things, and Im sure I do things that bug them too. Its definitely not bad enough that I want to or need to leave, I just find many of the situations that happen kind of humerous. C'est la vie.
